Arsenal have reportedly agreed personal terms with Ben White and have increased their offer for the England international to £54million with add-ons.
The Gunners are keen on adding another centre-back to the squad having allowed David Luiz to leave and with William Saliba set to head back to France on loan.
White has been linked with Liverpool, Spurs and Manchester United but Arsenal have emerged as the frontrunners to secure his signature.
Transfer chief Edu has reportedly been locked in talks with Brighton for the last few weeks.
Arsenal have had two bids rejected by Brighton and are now said to have launched an improved offer of £48million plus a potential further £6million in add-ons.
That’s according to Duncan Castles of The Transfer Window Podcast, who claims the bid is around the mark Brighton would consider.
He said: “My understanding is that Arsenal made a third offer for White at this beginning of this week. They’ve increased the guaranteed sum to £48m.
“There’s another £6m in performance related variables, the majority of which should be easily achieved. So they’ve pretty much got to where White expected to be sold for.
“However, my understanding is Brighton are yet to accept or make a decision on that offer.”
Meanwhile, Simon Jordan thinks White should wait for a “more compelling” transfer than a move to Arsenal
Jordan said: “Why would he want to go there?”
“With respect to Brighton it’s a step up but there may be other steps available to him that are far more compelling than Arsenal.
“If Ben White is now in the international squad and revered the way he is, because he’s a top quality player, why are Arsenal in the mix? Arsenal are all over the place.
“If you’re comparing and contrasting Brighton to Arsenal then yes it is a step up but if you’re comparing somebody who’s in the England squad that people in the game think is a Rolls Royce then what is the move he’s making to Arsenal for?”
On Mikel Arteta, Jordan added: “They are a long way from where they need to be and there’s a lot of people looking at Arteta, me included, who started out thinking this guy’s got the chops but are maybe thinking he’s all theory and not enough practice.”
White is currently away with England as they prepare for a historic Euro 2020 final against Italy on Sunday.
