Rafa Benitez was promised money to spend when he became the new Everton boss and if reports are to be believed, he certainly looks as though he’ll be backed.
What’s the word?
The Toffees have already considered spending over £50m on Ben White but now they have another mega-money move potentially lined up.
According to the Mirror, Everton could swoop for Newcastle star Allan Saint-Maximin this summer.
They are willing to put £50m on the table for the dazzling winger but only if Richarlison heads elsewhere this summer.
Should Everton sign ASM?
Saint-Maximin has been one of the most dangerous wide men in the Premier League during the last two campaigns so Newcastle are hoping to receive £60m for his services.
On his day, the Frenchman is one of the most difficult players to deal with in the entire Premier League.
On that evidence, supporters would absolutely adore him at Goodison Park.
The winger has already made a splash at Benitez’s former club, beating players with remarkable pace and incredible agility.
His dribbling is second to very few while his work ethic and ability to progress the play is truly eye-catching.
Last term, Saint-Maximin suffered a great deal with the ongoing pandemic and therefore, was not able to discover his best form.
That being said, some of the 24-year-old’s performances were absolutely scintillating.
The Magpies gem was involved in seven goals and recorded a whopping 3.8 dribbles per game. That ranked him as the second-best dribbler in the entire division with only Adama Traore (4.1) registering more per match.
Once described as a player with “scary” ability by Steve Bruce, Saint-Maximin has won the hearts of many in the football world.
Though, nobody rates him more highly than his current manager. Bruce added last year: “There are still things he has to learn, but he’s a real, real talent, and a real find for the club. He gets you off your seat. He can be hard work at times to manage, don’t get me wrong, but he’s a really wonderful talent.”
With that in mind, it would be incredibly difficult for Everton supporters to loathe Benitez and co if he comes to Merseyside.
Saint-Maximin may need to improve his end product but the way he can change a game in a split second is something to marvel at.
It’s a rare quality and for an Everton side needing to qualify for European football, he’d be ideal to help them launch that assault.
He is one of the most frightening and entertaining players in the Premier League. Everyone at Everton should love this deal if it comes to fruition.
