Liverpool will want a “good slice” of the £50m Brighton have received for Ben White if they sell Nathaniel Phillips, according to Kevin Campbell.

After impressing for Brighton in his debut season in the Premier League in 2020/21, White has agreed to a £50m move to Arsenal.

Graham Potter is reportedly eyeing Liverpool’s Nathaniel Phillips as White’s replacement.

Liverpool to lose Henderson and Klopp over deal?

Phillips enjoyed his breakthrough with Liverpool last season as he made 20 appearances across all competitions.

Campbell believes Brighton signing Phillips is “very smart business”, as reported by Football Insider. But he suggests that Liverpool will demand a sizeable fee for him:

“It’s very smart business. Phillips can definitely do a job in there and you get him for less than a third of the price you sold White for.

“That is what Brighton are good at. They make nice margins on their players. It is great business from them.

“But Liverpool will know Brighton got a big sum from Arsenal for Ben White, of course. They will be thinking they can get a good slice of that money. They’ll be like, ‘We want our money!’

“Let’s be honest, a deal is there to be done because Brighton need a centre-half and they can more than afford it.”

Elsewhere, Danny Murphy has suggested that Jordan Henderson’s contract situation is nothing to worry about:

“I don’t think his contract is a problem.

“If he’s got two years left, he loves the club, the club loves him, the fans love him, they adore him.

“He’s not going to be looking to go anywhere else, he’ll be looking to finish his career at Liverpool, there’s no doubt about that. And he has got plenty left in the tank.

“Jordan is a phenomenal leader and his progression over the years has been amazing. To go from being bit-part under Brendan Rodgers and then being the mainstay of the team, becoming the leader, the first captain of Liverpool to win the Premier League in 30 years, to take the team to a Champions League final…

“What he’s become is a sensational captain for a wonderful team and he deserves everything he gets.

“To actually elevate his game to a point where the admiration was coming from everywhere, and deservedly so.

“He’s very unique, he’s in the latter stages of his career and can still play in a number of positions equally as well.”
