West Ham United have offered West Brom £11m for their “number one choice” Sam Johnstone, according to reports.

Johnstone came through the ranks at Man United, but he did not register a single senior appearance for them.

The goalkeeper had several loan spells away from United. He enjoyed a successful two-year spell at Aston Villa between 2016 and 2018.

Johnstone left Man Utd permanently in 2018 as he joined West Brom for around £6.5m.

The 28-year-old has played over 130 times for the Baggies and he enjoyed a stellar campaign for them in the Premier League last season.

West Ham have now made an £11m bid for Johnstone, according to Football Insider. The ‘keeper is now their “number one choice” this summer.

It has been said that West Brom want £20m for Johnstone, but they add that a “deal can be done for considerably less” than that.

Earlier this week, Gabriel Agbonlahor has suggested that Jesse Lingard “will want to leave” Manchester United this summer.

The midfielder spent half of last season on loan at West Ham. He shone for the Hammers as he grabbed nine goals and four assists from his 16 outings.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has suggested that Lingard is in his plans “at the moment”. But Agbonlahor believes that the 28-year-old will want to play regularly elsewhere:

“Things can change. The transfer window closes in September and there are a few games before then to play in the Premier League.

“If Lingard doesn’t get the starting time he wants then he might decide he wants to leave in the last week of the window because he might not get in in front of [Paul] Pogba, Fred and [Bruno] Fernandes. Then you’ve got [Marcus] Rashford, [Mason] Greenwood and [Jadon] Sancho further forward.

“Lingard might think ‘I’m happy the manager wants me in his plans but my plans don’t want to be sitting on the bench.’ He was so close to going to the Euros so he’ll want to go to a club that gives him the best chance of going to the World Cup.

“I still think Lingard will want to leave. I just don’t see him getting a starting place in that Manchester United midfield.”
