The champions save seven match points during their championship run
Fernando Romboli and David Vega Hernandez made a perfect team debut this week, as they defeated top seeds Tomislav Brkic and Nikola Cacic 6-3, 7-5 in one hour and 16 minutes to win the Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag .
The Brazilian-Spanish duo saved seven match points during their title run. They overcame four in the quarter-finals against Admir Kalender and Mili Poljicak and three in the semi-finals against Radu Albot and Pedro Martinez.
This was the first ATP Tour doubles final for both men. Romboli had never made a tour-level semi-final before this week. His partner, Vega Hernandez, had previously advanced to two semi-finals at this level and fell short both times.
Romboli and Vega Hernandez only lost serve once in the championship clash against the top seeds, and they converted three of their four opportunities. Brkic and Cacic were pursuing their second title of the season after triumphing in Buenos Aires.
