Sheffield United are keen on signing Amad Diallo on loan from Manchester United this summer.

The 19-year-old was signed by United from Atalanta for £37million in January 2021, but played just eight time for the club last season.

He provided an assist for Mason Greenwood on his first Premier League start and scored a wonderful back-header in their last-16 tie against AC Milan in the Europa League.

But the arrival of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund will likely further reduce Amad’s opportunities under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season.

Uruguayan teenager Facundo Pellistri – who also joined United in the summer of 2020 – has already left the squad, joining La Liga side Alaves for the season.

And Amad is expected to follow suit, with talkSPORT claiming Sheffield United – who have also agreed a deal with Liverpool to sign Ben Davies on a season’s loan – are keen on the Ivorian.

He represented his country at the Olympics in favour of joining up with pre-season training at United, but the club are adamant the move will only be temporary.

On completing the signing of Diallo back in January, Solskjaer said: “As a club, we have followed Amad for a number of years. And, having watched him myself, I believe he is one of the most exciting young prospects in the game.

“Manchester United has such a proud history of developing young players and everything is in place to enable Amad to reach his potential here.

“It will take time for him to adapt, but his speed, vision and fantastic dribbling ability will stand him in good stead to make the transition.

“He is a player with all of the raw attributes that are needed to be an important player for Manchester United in the years to come.”

Amad has settled in well to life at Man Utd with team-mate Dan James praising him in February for being “unbelievable in training”.

James said: “Amad has come in and, as a young lad, he’s been unbelievable in training.

“I mean his professionalism [is very good] and he’s settled in straight away, I’d say, do you know what I mean?

“We see his quality in training, he has unbelievable feet, but we’ve seen he also presses well and wins the ball back, which is exactly what we want.”
