Rio Ferdinand would like to see Man Utd splash out on Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez or West Ham star Declan Rice this summer.

Both players have been heavily linked with the Red Devils this summer with rumours they still want a central midfielder if the right player becomes available.

Rice had a great season for the Hammers last term with his form earning him a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2020.

Ten kneejerk reactions to the opening Premier League weekend

The West Ham man starred for the Three Lions as they reached the final and the Premier League club have now slapped a £100m price tag on him.

Niguez is another player who Man Utd are reportedly keen on with his value plummeting this season to around £45m, despite a buyout clause of £128m.

He started Atletico’s first match of the season as they beat Celta Vigo over the weekend, setting up one of the goals.

The Spaniard will be hoping to be more involved from the beginning of matches this season as he only started 22 La Liga games last term.

And Ferdinand hopes Man Utd can get a deal for Rice or Niguez over the line this summer as the Red Devils continue to improve their squad.

“I think if the right player becomes available for the right price, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will go and get him,” Ferdinand told his FIVE YouTube channel.

“The problem is who is out there and who could be a good fit? Saul Niguez would be a perfect fit and he’s asking price was £160m a couple of years ago, now it’s more like £40-50m.

“In today’s game that’s a decent price for someone like him who has Champions League experience. I’m a big fan of his. If you can get him in this window, I think you do it.

“I think Declan Rice would be a massive addition to this squad. I’m a massive fan of his. I would love to see him keep progressing.

“He was brilliant for England in the summer. I think if West Ham keep him they’ve done unbelievably well. I think he does well staying at West Ham or if he goes.”
